Villa Delano does glamour and keeps it keeps it restrained. Its sophisticated clarity of style is harmonious, calming. High on the hillside above Ftelia beach, this is a place where some secluded privacy can be enjoyed but the beautiful curving sands of Ftelia Beach with its laid back, boho chic bars, are just down the hill. It’s an easy ride to reach the vibe the beach clubs or to venture for a wander around the picturesque little town of Ano Mera nearby. From the terraces and windows of this strategically set villa, the views over the wild, rocky landscape and deep blue sea are the very essence of Mykonos.
Villa Delano is big. Everything is set up for a large party to soak up the Mykonos experience and let life blend into a glowing mix of sea and sunshine, fun and relaxation. The pool terrace, with its infinity pool set against a dramatic coastal backdrop, is strewn with totally indulgent loungers and sunbeds. The rippling shade under the veranda with its long dining table invites sociable hours with a well-chilled bottle or two of local wine (go visit the ecological vineyard in Maou, near Ano Mera, and discover that Mykonos wine is far from the sticky sweet brew you might have anticipated). The facilities for those essentials of the alfresco lifestyle, pizzas from the oven and grills from the barbecue, are right here on your terrace.
Add to that the jacuzzi, the plunge pool and the well-equipped gym and Villa Delano is adding yet more treats to its cornucopia of delights. Even if the idea of adding a work-out to your holiday schedule seems a little ambitious, the spectacular view from the treadmill might help. But the shady terrace just off the gym area beckons an outside yoga practice and the Cyclades sunshine certainly deserves a few salutations. To be fair, the view is just as magnificent from the poolside sofa.
Whitewashed walls, light hued timber and a natural colour scheme lend a sense of serenity throughout the spacious interior, with delicious places to which to retreat when the sunshine blazes. The seven bedrooms, all en-suite, accommodate thirteen guests (one bedroom is a single) with ample space spread out across different levels, some with their own entrances to the pool, to the plunge pool or to the exotic hammam area. This gracious villa is replete with hidden nooks and pretty corners where moments of peace can be sought to balance out the party.
Because, of course, there will be that next bottle of wine to retrieve from the cooler. They do believe at the Maou vineyard that not only traditional methods and the wisdom of nature produce healthy grapes; they add good music the mix. What could be more Myknonos than that!
